Gene and Cell Therapy Targeting the TME

Gene and cell therapy targeting the TME was selected by the Niviron team as a strategic focus, since in solid tumors the tumor microenvironment is one of the main barriers to effective therapy. At the same time, the TME comprises several functionally significant cellular components, creating the opportunity for multiple therapeutic approaches within a single biological target.

Therapeutic approaches

Niviron is pursuing two complementary approaches to targeting the TME. The first is the functional reprogramming of cellular components of the microenvironment toward antitumor activity. The second is modulation of the secretory circuitry of the TME.

Targets for reprogramming

• CD8⁺ T cells and CD4⁺ Th1 cells
• NK cells and NKT cells
• Tumor‑associated macrophages (TAM)
• Dendritic cells
• Tumor‑associated neutrophils (TAN)
• Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSC)

Targets for reprogramming of the secretory and niche landscape

• Cancer‑associated fibroblasts (CAF)
• Regulatory T cells (Treg)
• Myeloid‑derived suppressor cells (MDSC)
• Endothelial cells
• MSC
• Adipocytes and other stromal cell types
