«Since early childhood, I have been interested in science, especially medicine and astronomy. Already at school I realized that I wanted to become a doctor. I had all the prerequisites: I was several years ahead of the biology curriculum, participated in two city biology olympiads and won twice. I also participated in the regional olympiad (the region is like a state in the USA), I took 6th place. It was my last year at school, so I had no opportunity to improve the result…..
But eventually I entered to another university. At that time, I could not afford to pay for my tuition, and I thought I would not be able to enter the university on a budgetary basis…. During that period, I had a lot of other people’s opinions in my head and there was no understanding that if you want something, you just need to do (sometimes a lot), even if it seems impossible. In general, it was a manifestation of weakness and betrayal of my dream.
I paid in full for my weakness – for more than 10 years I lived other people’s dreams and goals, doing things that do not bring pleasure. But on the other hand, now I understand — it was for the best. Because I got a lot of necessary skills that I would not have received working as a doctor. Perhaps I would not have set the goal that I have now, because I would have worked in a narrowly specialized field (although I am sure I would have been a very good specialist). It’s just sad it took me so long to remember what I want to do and put other people’s opinions, goals and expectations out of my head. The goal I have already mentioned several times is the cardinal prolongation of human life. This task requires breakthroughs in many areas, for example, in the treatment of cancer, CNS diseases and so on. There are a lot of unsolved problems in these areas and I decided to spend the rest of my life solving them.» — Nikita shares.
